At Ashley Hall, each day brings new moments of discovery, connection, and growth. In this installment of The View from the Head’s Office, Head of School Dr. Anne Weston offers a welcome back message and insight into her thought process heading into a new school year.
Welcome Back Letter & Reflections on a New Year

There is something special about this time of year. Our campus begins to fill with energy again, classrooms come to life as our faculty return, and we prepare to welcome students whose curiosity, courage, and joy remind us why our work matters.
Over the summer, my oldest daughter and I took a walk on the Isle of Palms, collecting shells along the shoreline. She has always loved spiral shells, not just for their beauty but for what they symbolize. We filled our pockets with shell fragments, many broken but still revealing the graceful spiral at their center. It struck me how often we overlook what is imperfect in search of something flawless, when there is so much beauty to be found in what is real and unfinished.
Spirals have long held special meaning at Ashley Hall. They remind us that growth is rarely linear. It unfolds through curiosity, reflection, perseverance, and the everyday moments that shape who we become. As spiritual writer Macrina Wiederkehr reminds us, "Hidden beauty is waiting in every crumb. Life wants to lead you from crumbs to angels, but this can happen only if you are willing to unwrap the ordinary by staying with it long enough to harvest its treasure.”
That is the gift of an Ashley Hall education. Each day, our students are invited to discover their own strengths, embrace challenges, and recognize the beauty and potential within themselves and one another. As we begin this new school year together, I look forward to all that our community will discover, accomplish, and become.
Throughout the summer, faculty and staff have been hard at work preparing for the year ahead. From thoughtful campus improvements to new opportunities for teaching and learning, every decision has been guided by a single question: How can we best support our students to grow into confident, compassionate, and capable young women?
This year brings several exciting developments, including a thoughtfully redesigned daily schedule that reflects the way girls learn best and strengthens our commitment to belonging, meaningful relationships, and deep learning. These changes are the result of extensive research, collaboration, and feedback from across our community. As we begin this new school year together, I am filled with optimism for what lies ahead. Ashley Hall has always been a community united by purpose: empowering girls to lead lives of confidence, integrity, and impact. I am grateful for the partnership of our families, the dedication of our faculty and staff, and the enthusiasm our students bring to campus each day. I am so blessed to be in this position at Ashley Hall and privileged to return the gift of presence that was offered to me as a student so many years ago!
